PURPOSE

 

The purpose of the MCL Detachment 680 scholarship is to encourage and support U.S. Marines, U.S. Marine Corps veterans and their children and/or grandchildren who wish to pursue higher education by attending colleges/universities or graduate schools and whose life accomplishments have demonstrated their commitment to their military service and/or the communities in which they live. 

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

The MCL680 scholarship program is open to all Marines, active duty, discharged, or retired and their children and grandchildren who can demonstrate through their accomplishments and activities their commitment to serving the U.S. Marine Corps, veterans and/or the communities in which they live.



SELECTION

 

Selection will be based on the applicant’s academic achievement, potential for success, outstanding character and citizenship, school and community service and/or financial need.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

 

· Complete the appropriate Marine Corps League Detachment 680 Scholarship Application and attach the following:

 

New Applicants –

 

o Essay (1 typewritten page): Choose one topics: 1) demonstrate how your life is committed to the Mission Statement of MCL Detachment 680; or  2) demonstrate how your military service and/or your community service has impacted your outlook for the future.

 

o Letters of recommendation: two letters of recommendation (one that addresses your academic accomplishments and one that addresses your character)

 

o Copy of your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Assistance ) confirmation page indicating your Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

 

Renewal Applicants

 

o Essay (1 typewritten page), choose one topic: 1) Describe how the previous MCL Det. 680 scholarship assisted you in your pursuit of higher education; or 2) how you’ve continued serving the veterans’ community and your community-at-large.

 

o Transcript: an unofficial copy of your college transcript demonstrating appropriate progress.

by the March 31st deadline.  OR Scan the completed application and email to Carla by the deadline.

 

Finalists will be interviewed.

 

Scholarship checks will be distributed upon proof of college enrollment.

 

Number and amount of awards are variable.

 

Renewal applications will be considered.

 

All winners are encouraged to attend, as Detachment guests, the Annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball held in the fall.
